Description:
SWAAY was established in 1989, and is recognised as one of the leading specialist therapeutic providers of care for boys and young males, who have displayed sexually harmful behaviour.
Based in the Thames Valley, we work with 11 - 21 year olds, who have engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour and who have often suffered multiple forms of abuse.
We work to reduce the risk these young people pose, meet their complex needs and help them manage their physical and behavioural difficulties, so they can leave their past traumas behind,
build healthy relationships and lead responsible and rewarding adult lives. Our model is a multi-dimensional one which recognises the trauma and attachment difficulties our young people
often experience. We adhere to Restorative Justice principles, working closely with local agencies.
Key Stage 3 & 4 Education for our young people is provided by our Independent School, Cressex Lodge, offering a full curriculum through our qualified and specialist teaching staff. We are very successful in preparing for, and supporting, young people in local College placements.
We have a large in-house therapeutic team consisting of Forensic Psychologists, CBT, EMDR, Art, Play, SLT, and Family Therapists, as well as Consultant Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology. We continue to contribute to this specialist field through academic articles, presentation workshops and training events.
In addition, we offer a community service of assessment and therapeutic intervention led by Rachel Edwards, Chartered Forensic Psychologist, this has helped support young people and their birth, adopted and foster families.
