Description:
Brook House provides residential care for 2 young people aged between 08 and 17 years of age of either gender. The young people will have been assessed as having emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), where children and young people have a difficulty with interpersonal relationships and behaviour. Brook House staff are equipped to work with young people who experience these difficulties, through training, nurture, restorative practice and planned care with other professionals
Brook House is a semi-detached home situated in the picturesque countryside on the outskirts of Halifax. The home is located around 7 miles from Halifax town centre and is within easy walking distance to the village of Mytholmroyd.Halifax has all the usual amenities found in large town centres. Brook House has access to the local gym and leisure facilities, snooker clubs and sports clubs. Staff at Brook House will assist the young people to maintain current hobbies and explore new hobbies such as rock climbing, horse riding, rambling etc.
The home has 3 bedrooms, 2 of these for the use of young people and the other bedroom is combined as the staff office and staff sleep in room. Downstairs the home is opened planned with lounge, dining room and kitchen; providing the opportunity for an interactive environment. This open plan communal space can also be divided. Trifold doors have been installed to provide separate spaces in the downstairs living area.Leading from the lounge is a large patio area fenced on all sides, with a babbling brook below. The home is nicely decorated and furnished, and the young people will be involved with the decision making of the future decorating of the home plus personalising their own bedrooms. The young people have secure storage in their bedrooms in a form of a keypad safe, they will also have their own bedroom door key
We do not encourage young people to go in each other’s bedroom without the door open and will encourage young people to use the communal areas for socialising.Staff can access young people’s bedrooms, and will as a rule, knock and await a response to enter. There may be occasions where staff have to enter the young person’s bedroom without permission, where there are safeguarding, emergency or health and safety concerns. Staff, if required, can undertake a room search if they believe there are safeguarding concerns or possible prohibited items. Wherever possible the young person will be present, if not the room search will be undertaken by 2 staff members.
