Emphasis is placed on identifying individual needs and building positive and rewarding relationships to meet emotional and developmental needs.  We also aim to build optimism and hope for the future. The small numbers in each home ensures that each young person receives a high level of staff supervision and support to meet individual need.  Individual psychological interventions (e.g. CBT, EMDR, supportive psychotherapy) can be provided, as required, by the in-house psychologist, who also works closely with external agencies and with the staff teams in each home regarding care, emotional support and behavioural management. Close integration between care and therapy is essential to achieving good outcomes due to the critical role play by care staff, working with children and young people on a daily basis. Our approach to addressing interpersonal and behavioural problems draws heavily on attachment/psychodynamic theories and social learning theory.
