Description:

The Y is the leading youth homelessness charity for Leicester, also providing other community services including: our drop in centre for homeless adults, working with disabilities, and our vibrant theatre, sports and arts.  We are a diverse organisation with over 130 years history in the city, adapting our services and our approach to the needs of our local communities.

We believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to engage in positive programmes, activities and relationships that support and help them to thrive. In doing this we recognise that young people are all different, have had a range of life challenges and as such no ‘one size fits all’.

We aim to create an environment of growth and development using a ‘wrap-around’ model followed by positive engagement in education, employment, training and life skills development and have put this into practice through our innovative and effective programmes such as our Heritage Project, Ambition East Midlands (payment by results) and Shine – our regional complex needs that aims to address the causes of behaviours that arise as a result of childhood traumas.

We provide accommodation and support for 104 homeless young people in multiple locations across the city and in 2019, opened our first children’s residential home for up to 3 children with emotional and behavioural difficulties and achieved a Good rating with Ofsted after our first year of operation.
