Type of Provision: At Athena Care, we operate residential homes providing trauma-informed care for children and young people aged 0-18 years old. Each resident has their own bedroom with an en-suite bathroom to ensure privacy and comfort. The homes foster inclusivity and compassionate leadership to create a supportive environment for both staff and residents. Facilities include communal areas such as a lounge, dining room, kitchen, games room, and office space. Additionally, there is a secure outdoor garden for recreational activities, and the homes maintain a fleet of vehicles for transportation needs. Staff are trained to support the physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of the residents, with an emphasis on trauma-informed practices. Governance and quality monitoring are integral aspects of the service, with regular oversight, supervision, and feedback mechanisms in place to ensure continuous improvement and the well-being of the young people in care.

Specialist services: At Athena Care, we offer specialized services tailored to the unique needs of children and young people in our care. Our DASHH (Develop Assist Support Holistically Healthily) team comprises multidisciplinary professionals, including DASHH Practitioners and Trauma Informed Practitioners, overseen by the Operations Manager. Additionally, we provide access to psychotherapists who offer a range of therapeutic interventions such as counselling, Emotional Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy Practice (DDP), and therapeutic Life Story work.
Upon admission to our homes, each young person undergoes a thorough therapeutic assessment by our psychotherapists to determine the most appropriate support plan. During the initial 8 weeks of placement, our psychotherapists work closely with the DASHH team and home management to develop intervention strategies tailored to the individual's physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
Our DASHH team is committed to collaborative work with home management, keyworkers, and other staff members to provide holistic support to young people. They employ an attachment-based approach to understanding trauma, helping us gain deeper insights into each young person's worldview. Additionally, the team provides training and guidance to our staff, enhancing their understanding of trauma-informed care and psychological perspectives. This collective effort aims to support young people in transitioning from disruption to stability, preparing them for independence or alternative placements as appropriate.

Description:
Our ethos and philosophy is based on providing a child centred, outcome focused service to enable the children and young people based within the home to manage the context of their life experiences. Our aim is to provide care within a therapeutic environment, developing their strengths and enabling them to reach their potential. The environment will aim to meet the high levels of need of the individuals placed, through carefully planned interventions at the appropriate time.
We will ensure we recognise each young person as an individual and promote their sense of identity. They will be treated with dignity and respect and will be worked with through positive risk management to enable an appropriate level of independence and responsibility, with consideration to unwise decision making. Through the relationship and attachment-based model of care we provide, the young people will live in an environment which will help to stabilise their experiences, build secure attachments and support them to promote and develop their resilience.
We will work in an integrated way with wider services and support systems around the child or young person. We aim to ensure that they feel supported and nurtured to develop their sense of security, belonging and significance.
Our staff teams within our homes will work alongside our internal therapeutic and well-being team, DASHH (Develop Activate Support Holistically Healthily) to provide a high quality, outcome focussed, therapeutic service. This will enhance the approach and support at the home in order to meet the needs of the young people, enabling them to either return to their family, move to a foster placement, move into more specific residential homes or into semi-independence. All of our homes within Athena Care Group support the 7 well-being goals of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and the principles of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
